How to Turn Lethargy Into Writing Motivation

Become the Motivated Writer You Want to Be

Maintaining writing motivation can be a struggle. Day after day there is a lot pulling us away from building a life we love. Writing is a lifestyle, a way of living unique to a 9 to 5 job or behind a store counter. When done right, the writing life is beautiful.

But there is a lot pulling us away from achieving a great writing life. Due to news, social media, the people who surround us, and even ourselves, it can be hard to stay motivated to write.

I’m writing this blogpost as much to you as to myself, because bringing my mood to the place I need to succeed is my daily fight. And in the mindset of this fight, it’s tempting to believe I am the only one fighting. But I’m not, and neither are you.

I want to show you how you can bring yourself out from the dark and on top of your fight for not just a good life, but a great writing life. This isn’t some secret formula or mantra you repeat and everything is magically better. This will take a work from you. But I guarantee the work it takes will be worth the reward of enjoying your writing life every day.

Yes, a great writing life is possible.

Let’s dispel the lie right now that life is terrible. There are things about life that suck I fully admit, but much of demotivation comes from the way we have decided to process our life.

Take a moment and think about what you have heard and seen today. Most likely you have heard someone complaining about their life. You have probably complained, too.  The easiest response from humans to anything is negativity.

But there is so much beauty, and so much opportunity and possibility in life we ignore. Thinking positive thoughts instead of participating in the negative cycle will make people turn their heads, and your desire to write spark.

To believe a great life is possible for you, you must surround yourself with people and information that says the same. We are a product of what our minds take in, so start taking in great content if you want a great life.

Cling to the Positive. Dispel the Negative.

When I analyze what I think throughout the day, the negative side of any challenge is what I focus on first. It’s easier to complain than to find the positive aspect of anything.

How have you been thinking today? Are your prominent thoughts positive or negative?

Negativity kills you. It kills your writing, your passion, your motivation. Don’t let the negative control your life. Fight for the positive.

Positivity brings possibilities to life. It breathes aspirations into your dreams and goals.

Which do you want to define your writing? You have a choice.

Writing Motivation Starts with Action

I used to believe action came after motivation. The truth is, motivation and confidence comes after you start moving.

We all know waiting until the muse strikes us is an ineffective way to write. Any writer worth their salt will tell you to write when you don’t feel like writing. This is exactly what I’m talking about.

When you take the first step to start writing, it’s easier to keep going. Once you build up momentum and see progress, you gain confidence and it becomes easier to keep writing.

What you do decides what kind of person you are. Each thing you do is affirming who you are.

Are you acting like the writer you want to be?

If not, you need to figure out who you want to be, because you need to act like that person. You need to read like them, write like them, eat like them.

You have the power to change your behavior and become the writer you want to be. All the tools are before you, the last obstacle is yourself.

What are you waiting for?

6 Acts to Spark Writing Motivation

Because action comes before motivation, here are 6 actions to spark your writing motivation. Remember, it’s up to you to start when you don’t feel like it.

1. Keep your back tall and shoulders down.

2. Move with energy

3. Forsake negativity, and find the positive.

4. Pour yourself into whatever you are working on.

5. Write down your dreams and goals, affirming your success.

6. Start writing before you feel ready, and even before you know what to write.

Once you start taking action on the small things, writing motivation will follow.

Don’t Settle for Lethargy

Never for a second believe you are alone in designing and building your fabulous writing life. We are all working towards the same goal, and together we are all succeeders in our quest.

Be the positive voice in your writing, and the positive voice for the writers in your life.

I have good days and bad days where I don’t want to write a word. But I won’t let the bad days pull me into the miry depths of demotivation and uncertainty. I’m giving to my life all I’ve got, giving my writing all I have, and the same is possible for you.

It takes one decision to be a succeeder: Decide to try your best.
